what is the use of symbols in Reiki and are they really valid. This is still a hot debatable issue. but in general there are five symbols  which are used in reiki attunement process. Earlier reiki symbols were dealt very secretly an passed to the followers secretly. But nowadays on internet and on many books it is been published and it is very public. Important reiki symbols are Cho Ku rei,  Sei Hei Ki , Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen,  Dai Ko Myo and Raku. Each symbol is intended for specific purpose. which will be explained in detail.

Cho Ku Rei
Cho Ku Rei is considered to be the power symbol in Reiki, This is used for increasing your healing power, this symbol looks like a coil and it represent the power concentration to a single point. This symbol help to concentrate the natural power on you and help you to use the same power for healing and curing.

Sei Hei Ki
Sei Hei Ki symbol is used for cleansing your inner body or mind. This symbol is also used for protection and locking the energy inside. Sei Hei Ki will be of help in case you feel low or it is effective in healing mental and emotional issues.

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Hon Sha Ze sho Nen  is a connecting symbol which is used for remote healing. This symbol also represent timelessness. Reiki can be used for remote or distant healing. In old stories it was mentioned that Buddha , Christ and Hindu Gods used distant healing.  This symbol is used for sending a distant attuenment also.

Dai Ko Myo
This considered as the master symbol in Reiki , Dai Ko Myo is used in third degree of Reiki. This symbol is not used normally for any healing or treatment .

Raku
Raku is used in the final step of attunement process. This is used for grounding the energy. Also this symbol is effectively used for chakra alignments.

Side note : It is not scientifically proven the power of these symbols and many are considering these symbols as a trigger and it doesn’t have anything to do with real reiki. They believe that ,for formalizing the training these symbols are developed and published. But most of the Reiki masters consider these symbols as sacred and powerful. some consider these symbols as a method for concentration and meditation.
